During your visit
Where to park? Is the house suitable for wheelchair users? Find the answers here.
Parking
Ærø Museum is located right in the centre of Ærøskøbing’s narrow streets.
We therefore recommend that anyone arriving by car should park at the harbour or in Pilebækken. From there it is a 5-minute walk to the museum.
Accessibility
Access
The museum is housed in the protected Chief of Police’s house from 1775. The building contains staircases and is, unfortunately, difficult to access for people who have trouble walking and inaccessible to people in wheelchairs.
Companion Ticket
A companion ticket is also provided free of charge.
Food and drink
You are welcome to bring your own food and drink. Unfortunately, the museum does not sell food and drinks.
The museum has indoor seating for around 16 people. From May to September there are also tables and benches available in the museum garden, for free use.
Dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome in the museum. We merely ask that they be kept on a leash and consideration should be taken to other guests.
Photography
You are welcome to take photographs in the museum for private use.
For professional photography, you must contact the museum in advance by e-mail at: info@museumsydfyn.dk
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted in the museum.
Shop
The museum has a shop with a fine selection of literature on local history, toys and souvenirs.
The shop has the same opening times as the museum. You are welcome to visit the shop without buying a ticket for the museum.
Experiences in Ærøskøbing
Just a few minutes’ walk from Hammerich’s House are Hammerich’s House and the Bottle Ship Museum.
Hammerich’s House
Here you will learn the story of the sculptor Gunnar Hammerich and his love for the old town. The house features low-ceilinged rooms and winding corners, full of character.
Hammerich’s House is seasonally open from June 2 to October 17, 2026.
The Bottle Ship Museum
If you are in Ærøskøbing during the summer season and are curious about maritime cultural heritage craftsmanship, then the collection of bottle ships and ship models is the perfect place to visit.
The collections are exhibited in Ærøskøbing’s former poorhouse and have been there since 1943. Bottle-Peter (1873–1960) built more than 1700 bottle ships and 50 large model ships.
The Bottle Ship Museum is open seasonally from 27 June – 30 August 2026.
Guided tours
We offer guided tours in English to private groups, associations, company events and anyone else wishing to experience the museum. A guided tour lasts for approx. 1 hour.
As the museum’s rooms are small, the number of people on a guided tour is limited to 20 so that everyone can have an enjoyable experience. On the other hand, there is no minimum number. For example, we would be happy to arrange a guided tour for a group of, for example, five people.
Please contact us in advance, ideally a minimum of 14 days before your visit. Please call us on +45 6252 2950.
